Cyberinfrastructure
Researchers at the National Science Foundation have developed a new idea in computing, called cyberinfrastructure. The idea is to utilize advances in computing technology such as the Internet, microchip processors, and databases to create a shared network of research data and resources. The usage of a cyberinfrastructure is to solve the problem of efficiently connecting data, computers, and people in order to facilitate new scientific theory and knowledge.
Research scientist Dr. Geoffery Bove is using a cyberinfrastructure as part of his "Bovelab" that was completed for him by USM Information Technology student, Jamie Fenderson, in the Fall of 2008. The cyberinfrastructure allows Dr. Bove to connect remotely into his own computer network, manage and share data, and perform computing and information processing over the Internet.
