Mission
The mission of the RCG is threefold: 1) create and pursue basic and applied information science research and development initiatives; 2) provide high level, advanced, specialized technology consulting, collaboration, and support for research and development at USM; 3) develop, administer, and deliver technology and computer related education and training programs.
While research in information science can encompass a wide range of activity, RCG’s initial focus is to develop a research agenda focused on large data set acquisition, management, structure, analysis, and visualization. Its service mission focuses on providing information technology support for the high level, technologically complex needs of researchers and research units within the institution, and where appropriate, to entities outside USM. The education and training role is designed to provide an administrative structure for offering both credit-bearing computer literacy course and non-credit information science and technology corporate training opportunities.
